about

The title for this track is inspired by the 1980s band 'Weekend' who featured members of Young Marble Giants. I had a VHS recording of them performing live on the earliest channel 4 music show, 'Whatever You Want', presented by Keith Allen. The show was cancelled after a short time. I only discovered their music again quite recently and it is still very good. I always thought 'weekend' is a great name and a great word. Interesting that it is one of the few English words adopted into French.
The cover art is inspired by houses in the Eastfield district of Cumbernauld, a new town in Scotland where the film 'Gregory's Girl' was filmed and set.

lyrics

Is it because I was
making a fuss of
Your only friend
At the weekend

I wasn’t sure I thought
You were too pure
But now I know,
That you are flawed
Set a day on a weekend in the
Spring

I want to move to an
I become you place
Forever, forever
You made it clear when
I was insincere
And you had a laugh
You had a laugh
At my photograph

Set a day on a weekend in the
Spring
Leave a coin in ashtray for the ring
Give me evenings and weekends in the rain
