  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Debut album by wor_kspace. CD album in 4-panel digipack format with glossy-finish disc contained within. The Compact Disc is making a comeback! Once upon a time we were told you could spread jam on them and use them as frisbees and they would still reproduce perfect audio. I wouldn't recommend that - knowing what we know now - but they still sound sonically the most perfect reproduction of music that you can get. Sure, vinyl has a different and pleasing character about it, but CDs just sound great. Happy to sign things on request - just pop me a message with your order.

thanks 02:32
thanks I never get to see you Always something get in the way What’s it like to be you Watching television all day It’s obvious I need you Never thought It’s something I’d say Just wanna say ‘thanks’ for taking me on board Don’t believe in soulmates There are many fish in the sea But I believe your soul makes The best decisions for you To be the future with you Is something I could do Just wanna say ‘thanks’ for taking me on board Intra It’s obvious I need you Never thought I’d turn out that way Just wanna say ‘thanks’ for changing me Just wanna say ‘thanks’ for waking me Just wanna say ‘thanks’ for taking me on board

song 03:43
song I know that I’m a handful But you know that I’m thankful I’m happy dreaming all year long I know I always focus (on) The wrong bit of the story My life is going for a song Cho I know it’s not romantic But we’re both quite pedantic It’s getting harder to move on And though there’s often shouting I know that there’s no doubting The fact that we still get along Some problems are too big and Some problems are too small but We need to take turns at being strong For seven years of our life There never was an archive A brave new world somehow went wrong I know it’s not romantic But we’re both quite pedantic It’s getting harder to move on And though there’s often shouting I know that there’s no doubting The fact that we still get along

matrix 04:07
matrix It’s hard to focus In the world I should have known that when I was young At times reflective On what’s to come I could have got so much more done (vocorus) For conspiracy read fantasy For fantasy read pharisee For pharisee read decieve For deception authenticity I am a warning To keep you aspiring I don’t suppose that matters none The ghosts are stirring From early mornings A child’s hand claws And springtime’s gone On and on and on, you give yourself away rpt Run and ruun and run, your heart keeps going rpt Run and run and run, but only til you sleep And when you sleep, the walls keep standing.

transfer 03:54
Beset by all the problems that Came to you Reset every day then it Came to you We waited for the transfer To comfort you We waited for the prism to Find you Preside over the conflicts you overcame Take pride you never drifted To novocaine We waited for the transfer To find you You waited for the sun to Believe in you Fly (Concentrate Send Friend) Fly Fly Fly

hotels 03:33
hotels Remembered hotels and open vistas Trees blurred on the passenger side Service station with man-made duck pond Touching things that you’d never buy Some people see what they want to see Some people lie to their friends I only see what I ought to see I only see what makes sense So revealing yet so misleading You get that when you’re on the fence The end is abstract yet all around The glass is your only defence Some people see what they want to see Some people lie to make friends I only see what I ought to see I only see what makes sense Think of times when I never see you What would we think about now? Think of times when there’s no time to think What would we think about now? I have seen you for 60 days now But I still want you to stay I have seen you for 16 hours But I still missed you today
7.
weekend 03:58
Weekend Is it because I was making a fuss of Your only friend At the weekend? I wasn’t sure I thought You were too pure But now I know, Now I know That you are flawed Set a day on a weekend in the spring I want to move to an I become you place Forever, forever You made it clear when I was insincere And you had a laugh At my photograph Set a day on a weekend in the spring Leave a coin in ashtray for the ring Give me evenings and weekends in the rain Set a day on a weekend in the spring

fail 03:17
fail A woken fantasy of real mythology And all the street kids want is Glam Again, I want to see what I want to see But is that really who I am? I try to make up an ancestry when the one I have is hot on my tail I try to fake personality believing mine is destined to fail I struggle with the world of the Musical But I know why it’s there The real kids need to reach The fake kids need to preach about the graces and the air I try to make a mentality For all I know I’m riding on air I have more questions than answers So I’ll leave an interrupted cadence there.

adidas 04:13
adidas Just when your life was beginning A gnarled hand unfurled from a car Shrouded in Puma / Adidas Presented you With a black star No time for thinking things over The Aldi was closed anyway Wonder who this winter soldier Would take in his cross hairs today Seven seconds is all you know Seven minutes, the afterglow] Every other moment you’re in so much pain (S1) Alcohol lets you steal a glimps But you’ve never quite been there since Snow on cisterns, you feel like Prince for a day But then you pay Before the be comes a-moral Where does the judgement remain? Walking the pavements in sorrow Or synapses joined in your brain Maybe you’ll be an old person Laughing like budda all day Maybe you are a young person Maybe you’re laughing today
10.
quantum 06:24
Quantum Think about you every day: I don’t always see your face The accountant lied to you: and the flowers die in time Think about the lack of you: what I made in place of you Think about your aura too: Another proxy pantomime Another step towards you: Another classic double take The candle light affords you: quantum glimpse of being young What’s ithungover from?: with the gates of eden gone Waiting for the evensong: just an ordinary wrong You could have sung the other one: Bereft of tonality It would have meant a whole lot less: If the words came from your mind Envy motorcycle ride: Into the harbourface Maybe we will meet again: Maybe I’ll stand by your side

about

This, the debut album by wor_kspace, is my first proper venture into electronic music. It is a collection of songs with elements of drone and experimentalism. It was written over the period of lockdown in 2021 and I knew then that people would be likely to hear it after all that was over so I wanted to focus on hope and light. There is still inevitable sadness in the record though, but I believe that music that doesn’t contain any sadness cannot fully be any good. The idea of ‘hope’ contains sadness by default.
The songs deal with personal relationships. ‘Thanks’, ‘song’ and ‘tungsten’ and ‘weekend’ are straightforward love songs. Some of the songs are difficult to talk about because they are about people and situations who need their privacy protected – like ‘transfer’. Or they are something of a mystery, even to me. ‘Hotels’ was a longing for getting away during the first lockdown. The last two songs are about death, bereavement and loss. ‘Quantum’ is about my dad and the relationship I’ve had with him since he died in 1987. It is a bereavement that never really had a beginning, middle or end. The final song, ‘starship’ is about my cousin, Iain Don who left us in 2021, too young.
The album is attempting to reach out beyond the streets, beyond the sea and beyond the horizon. When you’re writing from a position of isolation it can be easier to see out that far. By writing songs and music that look to the future and the stars, ‘workspace’ attempts to make the personal cosmic.
