This is a companion album to ‘workspace’, the debut by wor_kspace. It is an electro-acoustic, mystic drone album made for the purpose of meditation, contemplation, reflection, ritual, study or sleep.
I have been intending to make a drone record for quite some time as it is a style of music I listen to a lot. Some of my inspirations in this field are Fennesz, Richard Youngs, Temple Ov Saturn and going back to Sonic Youth from my younger days.
The theme of the record is fairly self explanatory – the titles all being the names of maritime regions surrounding the British Isles. They will be familiar to fans of the BBC Radio 4 Shipping Forecast with its beautiful theme tune, ‘Sailing By’, composed by Ronald Binge in 1963. Apart from that, I will allow you to draw your own conclusions about what the music means.
